Development Writer
Overall Responsibility:
The Development Writer will work on the AFPI Development Team and be responsible for drafting and reviewing all messaging to donors, prospects, and foundations. This team member should have strong and well-developed writing skills that enable AFPI to deliver high quality communication on the fight for the heart and soul of America.
Reports To: Chief Development Officer and Director of Development Operations
Development Writer Responsibilities and Duties:

Champion AFPI’s servant leadership culture and nurture an environment of continual learning and improvement.

Compose high-quality and inspirational fundraising materials, including proposals, reports, presentations, brochures, letters, and emails from the President and CEO, Board Chairman, and other senior leadership.

Identify timely and relevant issues and coordinate with Chief Development Officer, as well as the Director of Development Operations, regarding donor communications and outreach.

Work with Chief Development Officer and Director of Institutional Giving to generate proposals for foundations and grants.

Collaborate with other centers where relevant, identifying potential areas for input in your own work.

Identify key stakeholders and coordinate with AFPI leadership to ensure targeted, effective outreach on key policy priorities to maximize impact; work with the communications team to amplify key messages.

Effectively advocate for AFPI’s principles and recommendations in public settings.
Qualifications:

Strong research and analytical skills that demonstrate critical thinking and command of AFPI and its Centers.

Proven writing experience, preferably in a similar role.

Strong communication skills and clear, organized writing.

The ability to tailor your writing style and voice to meet the needs of the target audience and signer.

A clear understanding of communication channels, including emails and letters.

Capacity to pursue several multi-stage writing projects concurrently while meeting deadlines.

The ability to maintain productive and collegial relationships with staff and uphold the public reputation of the Institute.

The ability to build and maintain productive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
