Policy Analyst, Center for Law and Justice

Overall Responsibility: 

The Policy Analyst will help advance AFPI’s and the center's mission by conducting research, assisting in content development, and coordinating with other AFPI components and external stakeholders in developing policies that support the American people’s right to live and prosper in free and secure communities, respect for legitimate law enforcement, reverence for the law, and smart-on-crime reforms that are essential to American life and liberty.

Policy Analyst responsibilities include but are not limited to:

This candidate will report to the Center Director to accomplish the goals laid out in the Center’s policy and research agenda. The individual should have experience in tracking policies and legislation at the local, state, and federal levels, highlight areas where AFPI has the highest potential for impact, and help create strategic plans to accomplish those goals. This team member will conduct policy research and write on relevant issue areas. Potential documents for production may include white papers, blog posts for the AFPI website, and op-eds for major media sources. Additionally, this team member will assist with the production and execution of policy events that help amplify the Center’s message. 

Qualifications: 

  • Completion of a bachelor’s degree or a combination of commensurate experiences is a minimum requirement. Additional professional experience(s) in federal or state government—particularly those with nexus to the criminal justice system—and/or in research roles.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with research on a policy issue and experience in designing and implementing legislation and/or policy recommendations with measurable results. Background and issue proficiency in areas of law enforcement and the broader criminal justice system preferred. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills that demonstrate critical thinking and command of data/research material relevant to the maintenance of the rule of law, police procedure, and general topics within the criminal justice framework.
