AFPI PRESIDENT/CEO BROOKE ROLLINS STATEMENT ON ANNIVERSARY OF U.S. EMBASSY MOVE TO JERUSALEM

May 14, 2021

Three years ago today, former President Trump made history by moving the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. This milestone followed another unprecedented decision he made several months earlier of going where no prior president had gone before in fulfilling his promise to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Israel. These decisions, which broke with decades of Washington establishment thinking, paved the way for a new era of peace and stability in the Middle East in which America demonstrated through actions, not just words, that it stands firmly with its friends just as it stands firmly against its adversaries. These decisions laid the groundwork for the Abraham Accords that former President Trump brokered between Israel, the United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Bahrain—a future-oriented framework of friendship not just between states but their peoples, and the first such agreement between Israel and its neighbors based on common benefits and opportunities and rejecting the decrepit ideologies and failed policy approaches of the past.

This week’s events in Israel serve as a tragic reminder of the enduring importance of the Abraham Accords and the urgent need for America’s bold leadership and decision-making in support of its friends. Today, as every day, on behalf of the America First Policy Institute I am proud to say that we stand with Israel and we are committed to a peaceful and prosperous future for the Middle East.
