Statement on May’s Record-Setting Border Apprehensions Including 50 Individuals on the Terrorist Screening Database
June 17, 2022
"The crisis at the southern border continues to worsen as the Biden Administration refuses to enforce our immigration laws. In May, the Biden Administration set another record with 239,416 apprehensions of illegal aliens on the southern border. With 3 consecutive months exceeding 200,000 apprehensions, it is clear that this administration’s policies have failed. The 1 million illegal aliens the Biden Administration has allowed into the country are overwhelming American communities and depleting critical resources. Recently, we also learned that Customs and Border Protection has already apprehended 50 aliens on the Terrorist Screening Database so far this fiscal year (FY) compared to 30 total between FY 2017-2021. And who knows how many individuals on the terrorist watch made it through our porous border undetected?
Border security is national security, and the Biden Administration has failed in its responsibility to enforce our Nation’s laws and protect American communities. The word is out — our southern border is open for exploitation. Fortunately, there are proven solutions to this crisis. Yet, this administration refuses to put Americans first as they fundamentally dismantle border security and remake the immigration system to benefit those who knowingly break our laws."
