STATEMENT: AFPI Supports Price Transparency Policies that Put Patients and Doctors Back in Charge of Healthcare
Washington, D.C. - As the House Energy and Commerce Committee considers healthcare price transparency policies this morning, the America First Policy Institute issued the following statement from Governor Bobby Jindal, Chair of the Center for a Healthy America at AFPI:
“Rarely do you see agreement from 8 in 10 Americans that one healthcare policy could make the system better. The solution is simple: require healthcare providers to disclose all costs before providing services. And it has been the law of the land for over two years for hospitals and nearly a year for insurers due to regulations finalized by the Trump Administration.
To ensure Americans benefit from the promise of price transparency, Congress is seeking to codify these policies into statute. It seems illogical to oppose a policy that Americans so clearly support. And yet the medical industrial complex is doing just that.
The America First Agenda is focused on putting patients and doctors back in charge and supports policies that remove uncertainty about the cost of medical care. Specifically, requiring hospital and insurer transparency will put Americans in charge of their healthcare.
The America First Policy Institute appreciates the work of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in offering real solutions to a top concern of Americans—the high cost of healthcare.”
