Statement from Matt Whitaker on potential protests in wake of the release of body camera footage by the Memphis Police Department
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Matt Whitaker, former Acting Attorney General of the United States and Co-Chair of the America First Policy Institute’s Center for Law & Justice, issued the following statement on potential protests in the wake of the release of body camera footage by the Memphis Police Department:
“Like many other Americans, I too was disturbed by the body camera footage I saw regarding the arrest and death of Tyre Nichols. We hold our law enforcement officers to high standards, and though the officers involved have already been terminated, we must also allow the criminal justice process to take its course. No one, including law enforcement officers, is above the law, and I am confident that justice will ultimately prevail. As outraged as the community understandably is, it is imperative that any protests remain peaceful.”
