Californians believe excessive taxes and regulations are driving away businesses.

  • 70% say that the state should cut spending, considering the decline in revenue attributed to California businesses leaving the state. Only 13% support raising taxes.
  • 63% think California's taxes and regulations hurt the state and make remaining businesses consider moving elsewhere.

Homelessness and crime are top of mind for Californians.

  • 74% say crime is the most important issue facing Californians.
  • 67% of Californians consider homelessness “very important”.

Californians refuse to accept higher energy bills and car prices to pay for climate change activism.

  • 78% do not want to pay even $10 a month more for electricity to move to renewable sources, and 35% do not want to pay anything extra.

Californians believe public education must be improved

  • 59% view improving education as “important” while 32% see it as “somewhat important”.

A survey of 955 Registered Voters in California was conducted online for the America First Policy Institute on May 27–June 2, 2023. RMG Research, Inc. conducted fieldwork for the survey. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.2 percentage points.
