Melissa Ford Maldonado is the Director of the Western Hemisphere Initiative at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), where she leads efforts to strengthen U.S. leadership and influence throughout Latin America. In this role, she advances policies that prioritize American interests, promote regional stability, and reinforce AFPI’s position as a leading voice on Western Hemisphere affairs. Melissa is committed to ensuring American sovereignty and leadership shape the region’s future.

Prior to joining AFPI, Melissa served as Policy Director and Senior Fellow at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, where she spearheaded initiatives on border security and U.S.-Mexico relations.

From 2018 to 2020, Melissa worked in the White House under President Donald J. Trump, serving in the Domestic Policy Council and the Office of American Innovation. In these roles, she supported critical initiatives such as criminal justice reform, opportunity zones, and economic engagement with underserved communities.

Born and raised in Bolivia, Melissa brings a global perspective and regional expertise to her work. She has conducted political research in Israel, completed a visiting fellowship at the Danube Institute in Hungary focused on border security, and participated in Fundación Disenso’s international leadership program in Spain. She has also served as a trusted advisor and expert witness before various legislative bodies, including the U.S. Congress.

Melissa’s commentary on foreign policy, national security, and regional affairs has been featured in outlets such as The Daily Caller, Newsweek, The Hill, The Washington Examiner, and more. She is also a frequent guest on television networks, including Fox Noticias.
