AFPI-New Jersey Celebrates President Trump’s Termination of Offshore Wind Projects
Trenton, N.J. – Today, the America First Policy Institute’s New Jersey chapter (AFPI-NJ) praised President Trump’s executive order calling for a “Temporary Withdrawal of All Areas on the Outer Continental Shelf from Offshore Wind Leasing and Review of the Federal Government’s Leasing and Permitting Practices for Wind Projects.”
“We commend President Trump for taking executive action our state has needed for years,” said Chair of AFPI-NJ Michael John Donohue. “It is my hope that this EO will lead to a permanent ban of offshore wind projects, creating a better future for New Jersey’s fisheries, tourism industry, whales, dolphins, and coastal environment.”
President Trump collaborated with New Jersey Congressman Jeff Van Drew and his nominee to serve as the next Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, on the EO.
“When these offshore wind projects were approved, the federal government failed to take into account the adverse effect they would have on our aquatic life, tourism industry, and overall coastal health,” said Meghan Lapp, Chair of the New England Fishery Management Council’s Hearing Advisory Panel and Member of the New England Fishery Management Council’s Habitat Advisory Panel. “I’m glad President Trump has halted these harmful projects so experts can analyze their consequences.”
