House Moves to Unleash U.S. Natural Gas Exports
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Oliver McPherson-Smith, Ph.D., Director of the Center for Energy & Environment, as the House moves to end the Biden Administration’s destructive pause on new liquified natural gas (LNG) export permits to countries that do not have a free trade agreement with the U.S.
“The ban on new LNG export permits is yet another reckless step by the Biden Administration to decimate America’s energy industry. American natural gas creates domestic jobs, improves our trade balance, projects our economic influence abroad, and helps to lower greenhouse gas emissions.
The America First Policy Institute applauds the House for taking up the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024 to end the Department of Energy’s capricious ability to limit LNG exports, which harms American workers, communities, our international partners, and the environment.”
For more information regarding the destructive nature of the Biden Administration’s policy, AFPI has published an op-ed explaining why this decision is wrong for the well-being of the Nation, a fact sheet on the need to reform the LNG export permitting system, and an analysis of recent legislative proposals to improve the LNG export permitting system, including the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024.
