STATEMENT: House Resolution to Stop the Biden Administration’s Borrower Bailout Reasserts the Constitutional Separation of Powers

Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Jonathan Pidluzny, Ph.D., Director of the Higher Education Reform Initiative at AFPI:

"The U.S. House of Representatives, in passing Congressman Bob Good’s (VA-05) resolution under the Congressional Review Act, took an important step toward nullifying the Biden Administration’s reckless action to cancel student loan debt. The Senate should take up Senator Bill Cassidy's (R-LA) companion resolution immediately. This kind of imperial bureaucratic ambition threatens the American constitutional system of government.

The Biden Administration’s borrower bailout is not just a $400 billion transfer of wealth to college-educated Americans funded by hardworking American taxpayers. It is also an unprecedented example of executive overreach that clearly usurps Congress’s power of the purse. The Congressional Review Act empowers the legislative branch to reassert the U.S. Constitution’s separation of powers, which is the fundamental structural protection for Americans’ rights and liberties."
