Statement on Police Week
Today, the America First Policy Institute issued the following statements in support of our Nation’s law enforcement during National Police Week.
“Every year, National Police Week reminds us of the ultimate sacrifice paid by far too many of our Nation's law enforcement heroes. As we reflect on their loss, let us be inspired by the selflessness of their devotion to community and reminded of the essential role that each and every law enforcement officer—whether they patrol our inner cities, our rural countryside, or our Nation's border—plays in maintaining the thin line between order and chaos. The America First Policy Institute will always stand proudly with the good men and women of law enforcement."
Chad Wolf, former Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, Chair, Center for Homeland Security & Immigration
“For too long, the radical Left has tried to teach us that law and order are evil and oppressive and that they must be defunded or eliminated. For the last year, we’ve seen this thinking put into policy, resulting in rampant crime in our communities. Citizens outside of Washington realize how absurd this notion has been and know the positive impact their local police departments have in our neighborhoods. It’s essential our leaders push back against these dangerous policies and fight for law and order.”
Matthew Whitaker, former Acting U.S. Attorney General, Co-Chair, Center for Law & Justice
“For the past 2 years, we’ve seen the rising crime rates that come from liberal policies. We’ve seen the effects of soft on crime district attorneys and politicians in these cities who do nothing but make the jobs of our local police departments harder and refuse to prosecute violent crime. As a former Attorney General from the state of Florida, I know first-hand that funding the police protects our neighborhoods and the lives of those we hold dear. I respect our men and women in blue and want to see them on our streets keeping people safe. Every American deserves to feel safe in their home.”
Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General, Co-Chair, Center for Law & Justice
According to a recent poll published by Rasmussen, 71% of Americans approve of their local police departments, and 70% of those who have interacted with their local police departments recently rated that experience as “excellent” or “good.” Americans love and respect our law enforcement, and so too should our lawmakers.
