Andrew Whitaker

Andrew James Whitaker is originally from Nashville, Tennessee, and currently serves as the Senior Project Manager at AFPI after previously serving as a Policy Analyst for the Center for Law & Justice. 

Prior to joining AFPI, Whitaker was at Deloitte as an Advisory Senior Consultant (Program Management Specialist) in the Government and Public Services practice, developing strategic project management oversight for defense, security, and justice clientele. 

Whitaker also previously served at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), starting as a Student Trainee at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services while completing his master’s degree in Terrorism and Homeland Security Policy at American University, and finishing his time at DHS as a Law Enforcement Policy Analyst in the Office of Strategy, Policy, and Plans. 

During the Trump Administration, Whitaker served as the Special Assistant to the Assistant Secretary for Counterterrorism and Threat Prevention, and as the Special Advisor to the Executive Secretary for DHS Secretary Chad Wolf’s briefing book coordination. Whitaker  concluded his time in the administration serving as the Deputy White House Liaison to assist with the presidential transition.

Prior to completing his masters degree, Andrew James also interned in the Office of Administration in the Executive Office of the President. As he finished his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he interned at the local county Sheriff’s Office and Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. 

In his free time, Whitaker is a fitness enthusiast, and enjoys traveling, being on the water, riding horses, and hiking, and he regularly returns to Tennessee to spend time with his family and friends. Andrew James is also an Eagle Scout.
