America First Announces Frank Murphy as Chair of Athletes for America Coalition
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the America First Policy Institute announced former National Football League (NFL) player Frank D. Murphy as the chair of its Athletes for America Coalition. The former football star has spent his whole life fighting for this country’s spiritual and cultural values and will bring this perspective to help uplift a new generation of athletes through this coalition.
“America is at a crossroads. The next generations — our children and grandchildren —are crying for help and the truth. Will we remain a Nation rooted in God and liberty, or will we destroy ourselves from within? I firmly believe that the America First movement contains the answers, with its policy and cultural solutions, to revive our beloved Nation,” said Murphy.
“As the Chairman of Athletes for America, I have the privilege to lead and fight alongside other athletes who share the same values and understand what it means to put America First. Jesus Christ saved my life and gave me a voice to speak out. Today, more than ever, I feel a calling to channel my faith, hard work, and discipline for the good of our country. We are building a team that is ready to meet the moment.”
For more than two decades, Murphy has provided hope, empowerment, football, and life skill training to young men in communities nationwide seeking to break the cycle of poverty and violence.
Murphy has dedicated his life to helping at-risk youth and athletes through his non-profit, Mentoring with Purpose Charity. As an at-risk youth himself, life on the streets with guns and selling drugs landed young Murphy in jail. After being given a second chance by NFL coach Tony Dungy, Murphy changed course from a self-destructive path and became a star athlete and an upstanding role model. He has received countless awards, on and off the football field, including NJCAA All-American, a Lifetime Achievement Award from President Barack Obama in 2017, and another Lifetime Achievement Award from President Joe Biden in 2022. In addition to serving as Chair of AFPI’s Athletes for America coalition, Murphy works as a national motivational speaker, life coach, and mentor to over 100,000 youth, churches, detention centers, Fortune 500 companies, and professional athletes.
Athletes for America serves as a home for athletes to use their platform to help change the course of this country, and the coalition of those joining the fight continues to grow each year. “Athletes for America Play to Pray” events have featured leaders within the faith and sports communities, including legendary Coach Lou Holtz, former NFL player Jack Brewer, and former professional Boxer Duke Tanner.
