STATEMENT: Congressional Action to Stop the Biden Administration’s Borrower Bailout Reasserts the Constitutional Separation of Powers
Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Jonathan Pidluzny, Ph.D., Director of the Higher Education Reform Initiative at AFPI, regarding Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) and Rep. Bob Good’s (VA-05) joint resolution under the Congressional Review Act disapproving the Biden Administration’s unilateral action to cancel student debt:
“The Biden Administration’s borrower bailout is not just a $400 billion transfer of wealth to college-educated Americans funded by hardworking American taxpayers. It is also an unprecedented example of executive overreach that is a clear usurpation of Congress’s power of the purse.
The Congressional Review Act empowers the legislative branch to reassert the U.S. Constitution’s separation of powers, which is the fundamental structural protection for Americans’ rights and liberties. The joint resolution introduced today by Senator Bill Cassidy and Representative Bob Good nullifying President Biden’s reckless action to cancel student loan debt is an essential check on the kind of imperial presidential ambition that threatens the American constitutional system of government.”
