STATEMENT: AFPI Praises the Passage of the HALT Fentanyl Act of 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Chad Wolf, former Acting Secretary of Homeland Security and Executive Director and Chair of the Center for Homeland Security and Immigration at AFPI, after the passage of H.R. 467, the Halt All Lethal Trafficking of Fentanyl Act of 2023, in the House of Representatives. This legislation would place fentanyl-related substances as a class into Schedule 1 of the Controlled Substances Act.

“As the leading killer of young Americans, fentanyl remains a growing threat to our American homeland and the health and well-being of all our citizens. Over 100,000 American lost their lives to drug overdoses last year alone, and our unsecured southern border is allowing the cartels to push even larger quantities of this dangerous drug into communities across the Nation. The America First Policy Institute supports permanently designating fentanyl-related substances as Schedule 1 drugs, allowing the federal government to enforce greater penalties on people peddling this poison within our communities. The HALT Fentanyl Act is an important first step, and AFPI is ready to work with Congress to advance additional America First solutions defeat the cartels.”
