Gender Transition Medications and Surgeries for Children in the U.S.
Rates of transgenderism in children have rapidly increased in recent years in the U.S., which has sparked discussions between parents, schools, policymakers, and medical professionals alike over how to discuss and treat the issue. On one end of the spectrum, activist groups and a vocal subset of the medical establishment have promoted what is euphemistically known as “gender-affirming care,” whereby children with transgender inclinations are being encouraged to undertake potentially irreversible surgical and hormonal interventions with unknown long-term consequences.
