STATEMENT: Hogan Gidley on North Carolina Senate Bill 747, The Elections Law Changes Act

Hogan Gidley,  June 22, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Hogan Gidley, Vice Chair of the Center for Election Integrity at AFPI, regarding Senate Bill (S.B.) 747 in North Carolina. The Elections Law Changes Act would strengthen North Carolina’s election integrity by enacting stronger regulations on mail-in ballots, prohibiting outside private funding from being used to administer public elections, and authorizing other commonsense measures.

“Making it easy to vote, but hard to cheat is closer than ever in North Carolina.  S.B. 747 implements security and transparency measures in the election process by requiring all ballots to be received by Election Day, preventing non-American citizens from voting in American elections, and banning private money from being used to administer public elections. This bill is a significant starting point to help restore faith, trust, and confidence in North Carolina elections, and AFPI looks forward to even more robust legislative proposals in the future to continue addressing election integrity in the Tar Heel State.”
