STATEMENT: Ken Blackwell on Governor Kemp Signing Senate Bill 222 into law
Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Ken Blackwell, Chair of the Center for Election Integrity at AFPI, after Governor Brian Kemp signed into law Senate Bill (S.B.) 222, which prohibits private money from being used in elections administration:
“I applaud Governor Kemp for signing landmark legislation that closes loopholes in a previous law passed in 2021, which attempted to ban private money in elections administration. Even though the intent of the original law was clear, dark money progressive groups were taking advantage of loopholes to continue funneling private money into elections administration. This new law shuts the door to that practice once and for all. Allowing private money to fund elections administration opens the door for partisan influence in elections, which is unfair to voters, who all deserve to be treated equally. Today, Georgia took another major step forward with this law, making it easy to vote but hard to cheat.”
In the past few months, the Center for Election Integrity submitted a Letter of Information educating senators on the merits of the bill, attended hearings, and participated in legislative meetings about the bill. This new law is a win for all Georgians.”
