Statement: Ken Blackwell on The Passage of Georgia Senate Bill 222

Washington, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Ken Blackwell, Chair of the Center for Election Integrity at AFPI, regarding the passage of Georgia Senate Bill (SB) 222, which prohibits private money being used in elections administration:
“We applaud the Georgia General Assembly for the passage of SB 222. This bill closes loopholes in a law passed in 2021 that attempted to ban private money in elections administration but was not clear enough. Dark money progressive groups were taking advantage of loopholes to funnel private money into elections administration. Thanks to SB 222, the door is now shut once and for all. Georgia has set the standard that other states can follow when private entities attempt to exploit similar loopholes. Allowing private money to fund elections administration opens the door for partisan influence in elections, which is unfair to voters, who all deserve to be treated equally.

The Center for Election Integrity submitted a Letter of Information educating senators on the merits of the bill, attended hearings, and participated in legislative meetings. This vital legislation is a win for all Georgians.”
