Statement on the House Healthy Future Task Force
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) issued the following joint statement from Former Governor Bobby Jindal, AFPI Chair of the Center for a Healthy America, and Newt Gingrich, AFPI Board Member and Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, on the House Healthy Future Task Force efforts.
“On Thursday, the House Republican Healthy Future Task Force completed the release of its impressive framework to create a Healthy Future for America. Based on our engagement with the Task Force, we commend the 17 members and Leader McCarthy for their combined leadership on this important topic that affects all Americans.
For too long, Washington-centric policies have empowered big government bureaucracy and special interests rather than patients and doctors. The Left’s Build Back Better agenda only doubles down on this failed approach. But the House Healthy Future Task Force demonstrates that it does not have to be this way.
The Task Force has worked to create a comprehensive framework that will repair this broken system and create a brighter future for healthcare in our Nation. The five subcommittees developed realistic and effective solutions to address the most pressing problems patients face. Their smart, targeted policies will make prescriptions more affordable without sacrificing access, and they will modernize outdated systems to improve access to electronic health records and doctor appointments via telehealth. They will also prepare America for future pandemics, secure crucial health equipment supply chains to decrease reliance on China, strengthen the relationship between doctors and patients, and help alleviate the current shortage of nurses and other health professionals to ensure that Americans who need care can quickly receive it. Additionally, these policies will improve affordability by giving employers and employees more control, promoting transparency to benefit patients, and fostering competition to lower costs.
Together, these policies will restore patients’ control over their healthcare. Seventy-four percent of voters agree this will make our healthcare system work better. America First policies put patients and doctors back in charge of healthcare, and the Task Force’s targeted solutions to fix what is broken are the right prescription.”
