Statement: Steve Yates on Speaker McCarthy’s meeting with Taiwan President Tsai
April 05, 2023
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) released the following statement from Steve Yates, Chair of the China Policy Initiative at AFPI, regarding Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in California:
“Speaker McCarthy is correct to meet with President Tsai despite Beijing’s bluster, and he should plan to visit Taiwan in the near future. Elected representatives of a free people should meet and collaborate wherever and whenever we see fit. Beyond meetings, as important as they are, the U.S. and Taiwan must press forward with our shared policy priorities, including clean communications networks, secure supply chains, and the prompt delivery to Taiwan of advanced military hardware and training capable of deterring Chinese Communist Party aggression.”
