Stop Irreversible and Off-Label “Treatments” on America’s Children

February 22, 2023

TRANSGENDERISM IN CHILDREN IS A GROWING TREND IN THE U.S.
States should adopt policies to protect children from potentially harmful, irreversible, and unapproved sex reassignment surgeries and medications. Transgenderism in children is a growing trend in
the U.S.

  • Over 300,000 children ages 13-17 are transgender.
  • The number of children known to be on puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones in the U.S. more than doubled between 2017 and 2021.

Puberty Blockers and Cross-Sex Hormones given to children are often prescribed for off-label
(unapproved by the Food and Drug Administration) use. Some of the known dangerous side effects of
these drugs include:

  • lowered bone density,
  • stunted growth, and
  • permanent infertility.

Little evidence of mental health benefits of these “treatments” for children has been found. A large
cohort study found NO advantage of surgery on mental health outcomes for those who received
surgical interventions and those who did not. Radical groups and some medical professionals are pushing irreversible genital mutilation and surgeries as a preferred “treatment” path for America’s children, such as:

  • Mastectomy
  • Ovariectomy
  • Uterine extirpation
  • Penile Disablement
  • Tracheal Shave

Only 12–17% of children with gender dysphoria (the medical term for psychological distress associated
with transgenderism) carry this condition into adulthood.

  • Still, many children in the U.S. are still receiving irreversible therapies and surgeries.

59% of registered voters believe it should be against the law to provide “gender-affirming care” to
children, which involves puberty blockers or surgery to help transition a boy to a girl or a girl to a boy.

States should adopt policies to protect children from potentially harmful, irreversible, and unapproved sex reassignment surgeries and medications.
