Top 10 Reasons to Oppose the Omnibus

December 21, 2022

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The America First Policy Institute today released the Top 10 Reasons that America First lawmakers should reject the omnibus spending deal in the United States Congress.

#1 – The text of the omnibus bill is four times longer than the Bible

The omnibus government funding bill is 4,155 pages long. The King James Bible is 1,100 pages. Some Members of Congress will be voting on this within 2–3 days. It is highly unlikely that they or even their staff will have read the bill cover-to-cover before putting Americans on the hook for the flood of spending.

#2 – The new conservative majority in the House was not consulted on this bill

The American people spoke. A conservative majority will take over the U.S. House of Representatives in less than two weeks. They had NO INPUT on this massive spending bill.

#3 Fails to address the U.S. border crisis but instead secures borders in the Middle East

The bill prohibits the Department of Homeland Security from spending money to secure the U.S. border.  Instead, $2 billion must be spent on processing more illegal immigrants into the U.S.  At the same time, the bill provides $410 million to Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, and Oman to secure their borders.

#4 – Increases U.S. aid to Ukraine to more than $100 billion

Total U.S. spending is nearly double the amount spent by the rest of the world COMBINED, while the Biden Administration has not defined a plan to end the war.

#5 – Provides welfare and drivers licenses to un-vetted Afghans released into the country

A scathing Department of Defense Inspector General report uncovered that the Biden Administration failed to properly vet Afghans evacuated during the chaotic withdrawal and that they potentially pose a national security risk here at home.

#6 – D.C. swamp spending on steroids

The omnibus contains $15 billion in pork-barrel spending on over 3,200 special lawmaker projects—“earmarks.” Several egregious earmarks include:

  • A whopping $3.5 billion in destructive Green New Deal spending and hundreds of millions of dollars in additional international funding for climate initiatives
  • $1.2 million for San Diego Community College District for “student support services for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.”
  • $25 million for the job-killing National Labor Relations Board.

#7 – Woke priorities overtake real issues facing Americans

The omnibus uses the words “diversity,” “inclusion,” “gender,” and “equality” 106 total times. “Inflation” is mentioned 20 times. The bill also allocates up to $200 million to the Gender Equity and Equality Action Fund.

#8 – Fails to get tough on China

While the omnibus does prohibit the use of TikTok on government phones, it does nothing to stop the Chinese Communist Party and its agents from acquiring U.S. farmland and strategic properties.

#9 – Funds more partisan January 6 investigations, but no investigation of potential FBI collusion with Big Tech

Also spends $375 million on a new, consolidated Federal Bureau of Investigation headquarters in the D.C. swamp. Despite years of questionably partisan investigations—from the Russia-collusion hoax to the labeling of concerned parents as domestic terrorists—Congress is rewarding the FBI with a brand new, state-of-the-art facility.

#10 – More blowout spending when the national debt is more than $31 trillion

Increases non-defense spending to the HIGHEST LEVEL EVER by $68 billion—a 9.3% increase from last year.
