NEW POLLING: Biden Administration is Wrong at the Border and on Masks on Airplanes
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The America First Policy Institute today released new polling data from Scott Rasmussen, which shows the American people disagree with the Biden Administration’s plans to end Title 42 removals of illegal immigrants due to the threat of COVID-19. Voters — especially those who regularly fly commercial airlines — also oppose the continuation of mask mandates on airplanes.
The polling results show that Americans oppose the Biden Administration’s policies at the southern border in general and strongly oppose ending Title 42, one of the few safety protocols preventing the unnecessary spread of COVID-19.
According to recent polling of registered voters conducted April 7-9, 2022, by Scott Rasmussen:
- Eighty-one percent (81%) of voters say they believe immigration is very important or somewhat important in influencing their votes in the next election.
- Sixty-five percent (65%) of voters say it is appropriate to use a public health measure like Title 42 to block illegal immigration.
- Only 29% of voters favor ending Title 42.
- Seventy percent (70%) of voters say the Biden Administration should increase the number of Border Agents.
- Seventy-one percent (71%) of voters say they favor sending in the U.S. Military to assist in defending the border, and seventy percent (70%) say states should have the right to if the federal government fails to do so.
“The American people are clearly fed up with the Biden Administration’s approach to securing our border. It’s time this administration demonstrates the will and leadership needed to end this crisis. Their inconsistent and incoherent approach to COVID-19 along the border is transparent to all Americans,” said Chad Wolf, former Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and Chair of the Center for Homeland Security & Immigration at the America First Policy Institute. “If COVID-19 no longer poses a threat at the border, then it shouldn’t pose a threat requiring mask mandates on airplanes.”
“It is virtually impossible to overstate how poorly the public perceives the situation at the southern border,” said Scott Rasmussen, President of RMG Research. “The underlying challenge is that the Biden Administration’s priorities are far from the priorities of the American people.”
Additionally, the Biden Administration’s mask mandate on airplanes and public transportation was set to expire on Monday, April 18, 2022. Unsurprisingly, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced yesterday they are extending the mandate for another 15 days.
A March 17-19, 2022, Scott Rasmussen Poll found that:
- Fifty-three percent (53%) of voters nationwide think it’s time to end the mask mandates on airlines. Forty percent (40%) are opposed.
- Seventy-two percent (72%) of those who fly regularly want the mandate lifted.

Methodology
The survey of 1,200 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the Nation’s population of Registered Voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample was representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points. This survey was paid for by RMG Research, Inc. as part of the service provided for our Gold Circle Members, which includes the America First Policy Institute.
